You will have seen over recent weeks that we set up a partnership with the Lessons for Life foundation to support them in providing educational resources for children in Africa. Over recent years the Foundation has given over 6700 children direct access to education and supported in excess of 350 teachers.
You may also know that our CEO François Lacombe took part in The Big Ride for Africa in order to raise funds for the charity. This meant taking part in both a cycling and running challenge last week.
We caught up with François this week (after some recovery time!) to get his thoughts on the event and how the experience was for him.
He commented: “It is my passion to exercise, so I never needed a reason to run or ride. With my participation in the Big Ride for Africa in Ireland I found out that doing it for a cause, Lessons for Life Foundation, which helps children across Africa to have access to education, is much more rewarding.
I experienced great landscapes and fantastic views while riding my bike (100 km!) and running a half marathon accompanied by great and very sportive business partners which you get to know outside of their offices and business environment which is a serious team building factor.
Base Camp in Castlemartin Stud Farm brings you out of your comfort zone, camping and sleeping in small tents with only very limited comfort and privacy. The first day it was raining which was an additional challenge but the good team spirit, encouraging words from the great people surrounding us allowed me and the other participants to just “Do it!”.
There is one sure thing: I will be back in 2019, probably with additional Teleplan team members to support this great cause and participate again in the Big Ride for Africa.”
Teleplan’s service centers contributed over £1,600 to the sponsorship through various fundraising events. Huge congratulations to all involved.
